Wargame Rules
BLOG BACKGROUND AND WARGAME RULES
I have set up this blog for my wargaming interests in the Muscovite-Tartar Wars, Reconquista Wars, the Barbary Coast Pirates, and the early campaigns of the Ottoman Turks and Saracens. Some lesser known crusades will also be covered. Miniatures are mainly 28mm with a growing collection in 54mm. If my photographs serve to encourage others to complete their collections I shall be pleased. I will also be mentioning other sites with interesting collections on the above. Do join the 'Friends' if you like what you see.
I prefer to use my own rules which are kept simple and involve eight-sided dice. These allow for fast results with various types of weaponry. Morale dominates my games.

Andalusian, Almohad/Marinid, and Hafsid garrison flags
Just completed a few more garrison flags for my several Arab and Moorish dynasties. As these are based on Christian manuscripts , their accuracy may be in some doubt, but they are too colourful to reject completely. The top two are for my Hafsids. The checkered flag and the field command flag will be used by the Almohad/Marinid army. The six pointed star flag is influenced by one used by Moors in Spain, but could also represent Jewish allies. Even when staging small war-games these large banners add a great deal to the visual impact.

Almohad Moorish Cavalry form up for Battle
I'm working to build up my collection of Moorish/Arab cavalry and the Almohads now have two units of noblemen with their retinues. The colour coordination is somewhat exaggerated but I quite like this feature to my three, small Moorish armies. Many of their dynasties are known to have possessed 'mamluk' cavalry as personal guards in addition to civic stores of arms and armour so I am not going to rule out a measure of uniformity in some units.

Almohad or Marinid Emir's Canopy
Just clearing some more items from my scraps box, bits of card, brush handles etc. I now have a fitting command base for my small Almohad/Marinid army. I have on file some notes showing an Ottoman commander using a canopy, and it makes sense to have such in many climates. The emblem is associated with the Marinids.

Almohad and Marinid Campaign Additions
My North African Moors have now gained a unit of crossbowmen in their ongoing struggles with the Nasrids of Granada, and the Hafsids of Tunis. Have also increased their baggage train by utilising some rather smallish horses in my spares box. Have furnished a few more of the latter for the Hafsids too.

Hafsid Cavalry take to the field
More work on my Arab-Moorish cavalry has started the year off. The Hafsids belonged to the Hintata tribe. The Abu Hafs clan were originally pro Almohad but later became hostile and carved out their own state based in Tunis and Tripoli. They ruled from 1228 to 1534, before being taken over by the Ottomans. With quite a few medieval maps showing red and blue banners for the area I have adopted these colours for my Hafsid army. There is also some evidence that a purple lion was also linked with the kingdom. In addition I have increased my Almohad/Marinid cavalry to twelve figures.

Almohad/Marinid Cavalry
This is the first of my revamped Arab or Moorish cavalry. Black banners crop up quite a lot with the Almohad dynasty, and also with their former allies and successors called the Marinids. These figures have new banners and horses, and have been rebased.
