BLOG BACKGROUND AND WARGAME RULES
I have set up this blog for my wargaming interests in the Muscovite-Tartar Wars, Reconquista Wars, the Barbary Coast Pirates, and the early campaigns of the Ottoman Turks and Saracens. Some lesser known crusades will also be covered. Miniatures are mainly 28mm with a growing collection in 54mm. If my photographs serve to encourage others to complete their collections I shall be pleased. I will also be mentioning other sites with interesting collections on the above. Do join the 'Friends' if you like what you see.

I prefer to use my own rules which are kept simple and involve eight-sided dice. These allow for fast results with various types of weaponry. Morale dominates my games.

54mm Medieval Bombard for Wargames

Decided to convert a spare 28mm bombard into something for my 54mm collection. The carriage has been altered, the barrel is made of plastic tubes, the axis is also plastic with a steel rod for added strength. The wheels were originally Playmobil ship's wheels I picked up in a charity shop. Miliput and some faux jewellery created the hubs. I think its come out quite nicely, and for a total cost of about £5.50. The gun crew are mainly Britains Herald figures, repainted and varnished. Still to decide whether to base this piece, or not.     What a cracking job youve done, well done. Personally I would be tempted to base the piece, but it would probably spoil the whole toy soldier effect if you did.

      Thank you Robbie. I still can't make up my mind on whether to base it or not, nor can I decide whether to gloss varnish it, like the figures. What I can say is, its a real pleasure recruiting and restoring these toy soldiers. The Medievals now number near 300 completed. But I have just acquired some 800 cheap figures off Ebay which I intent to form into skirmish and small armies for the 1870-1930 periods, including a few borderline-imagine-nations, that will make a few people laugh. The bags were silly cheap, and if many were Chinese made, they weren't the rubbish type. But the scales vary from 35mm to 54mm, so some serious cataloging has just taken place. But its great fun!

    Great looking scratch built bombard, I'd have thought it makes sense to varnish the same as the figures?

      I'm certainly tempted, Iain. Have been trying to find out what others do, but some have a fairly liberal view in creating 54mm armies. I have always had a systematic approach for my collections lol.
